Hi all. A big ask but we are nearly there, we are visiting London and have one day free. Any suggestions for places to visit? Public transport and cheep or free. No particular interests (friends and family are with us) so all suggestions are welcome.....wildlife might just creep to the number one slot though
Don't think you can beat Kew Gardens - lots of birds, plants of course and you can wander by the river and see ducks and geese, there are woodland areas, open ground, of course the famous greenhouse and if you are interested a couple of really interesting 'museums'. You can get there by underground or bus - but that takes a long time, the bus that is. Actually in London there is St.James' Park. Or you could do the boat trip up the canal to London Zoo from Little Venice (Bit expensive though).
Most of the main attractions - Madam Tussaud, Tower of London, Piccadilly Circus are within walking distance (if you are fit). Get yourself a street map that has places to see on it. The British Museum is pretty good, as is The Victoria and Albert. Problem with London is there is so much to see, it is difficult to do in a day.
I loved Regents park when I was there last. I even went to see if I could see the aesculapian snakes along the canal. Richmond park was something else though, the deer, the birds and just that feeling of not being in a big city when you know you are. I also really liked Hampstead heath. There were so many parakeets there.
