Not great photos, (too many tree branches in the way) but I thought they were still interesting.
A sparrowhawk flew into the garden yesterday, but was seen by a magpie who came down for a closer look.
The sparrowhawk was at first on a branch closer to the hedge on the right, but moved higher as though to stand its ground against the magpie. Both sat there for several minutes glaring at one another, (it's the first time I've seen the two species in such close proximity to one another... that magpie looks big!)
This all took place long enough for my battery to go dead, (haven't checked it since before Christmas) and for Snowlynx to grab his camera and take a few shots himself.
They carried on facing each other in this Mexican stand-off for a little while- but just after he took a few photos the sparrowhawk gave in and left, and the magpie exited quite pleased with itself.
Nice photos- always a bit of aggro between raptors + corvids. When I saw my first Sparrowhawk of the year on Wednesday it was winding through some trees in a covert towards me, spotted a perched Magpie + decided to buzz at its head before moving on.
