Very few frogs and what few tads there were seem to have developed into little frogs and vanished. The pond plants are flourishing, which is a good thing. The newts might be lurking under the duckweed, I need to clear a bit of that off.
The last of the toads and frog tad poles exited last week. still a few newts, but everything else is going mad mating (insects in the pond that is). There are lots of red and blue damselflies busy mating and the wolf spiders are carrying round their bag of babes. As for the plants around and in the pond they have gone made and we will have to do some serious weeding. The midges are bad this year!
At last first sighting of an adult frog. It jumped into the water and swam across to the island. We do find it strange that we had not seen a adult in or near the pond, despite the masses of frog spawn we had.
