Just thought I would give you and up date on the Beavers, Having move up the Tay to the Dochart and up the Strath to the River Fillan where they had great fun felling trees near the Holy Pool - this is opposite my place, a couple seem to have moved back down to the Village where they are happily felling young trees near the station and viaduct, we wonder if they are setting up home near the railway line. Causing lots of amusement and discussion in the village, though nobody has seen one yet.
My latest issue of Broadleaf from the Woodland Trust has quite a good article in it about beavers- it said when two beavers were released on the River Tamar by the Devon Wildlife trust, they caused thirteen new ponds to be formed within four years- there was a resulting drastic increase in frogspawn especially, which brought in herons, snakes, and kingfishers.
Sediment decreased downstream from where the beavers built, which improved water quality overall.
Must be great to see them. How do people feel about the beavers?
Most find it very amusing including the river wardens, After all this/maybe more than one, is not very near the river bank. I think the reason no one has seen one yet is it is extremely dark here early morning and from about 5:00 in the evening. and other times they are usually walking their dogs.
