Flickr/SmugMug warning... please read! Nov 7, 2018 12:38:49 GMT

It seems now that the recent takeover of Flickr by SmugMug is going to cause problems... the photography community is in an uproar over on their forum.
Flickr has announced that as of January of next year, any free account with over 1,000 photos will be frozen until it is upgraded to a pro-account, at a cost of $50.
Any free accounts who do not upgrade and have over 1,000 images will start seeing their photos deleted- starting with the oldest first.
The Wabi account has 1,800 photos at the moment. I had stopped moving other members photos from ProBoards to Flickr some months ago after our ProBoards storage limit was met, since everyone now seems to have their own storage providers, but there are still a lot of images there that are not technically 'mine'.
I don't want to loose these... if nothing else, it causes broken links, (like what Photobucket did) and I think they are ALL important- many are identification images, and if anyone is searching for a particular species it means there's no photo to do along with an id.
Flickr is offering a discount for anyone who upgrades to a Pro Account before the end of November, and that's probably what I will do. I feel as though I am being blackmailed, though- as do many of the others over in the Flickr community forum, (it the bit about photos being deleted that's really annoyed everyone!)
I did want to give everyone here a heads-up... if you have over that number of photos in your own accounts, PLEASE start taking down ones you don't think are so important, and back up the ones that are. I don't trust this company to not pull the rug out from under us completely at some point. :-[
