It is happening in rural areas where there is no crop spraying etc., I have despaired for the insect life here this year. The queen buff-tails appeared, just a few, then we had a dumping of snow. We had about a week of good weather and some Bumbles and Carder appeared as did lots of other insects, then it was rain and a very wet season. The only insects I have seen so far this year is about 5 quite small Buff-tails, only 3 carder. 6-8 butterflies all bar two were Green-veined, one very bedraggled Peacock and one Red Admiral early on, normally there are lots of different flies, not so this year. Did have an invasion of flying ants in the house - must have come up through the floor boards or something, did not see any outside. Very few midges, though outwith the area in places they were as bad as usual. So I think that the weather in places is having a bad effect too. Outwith the area I did see more butterflies and insects but not as many as expected.
