I saw one of those last year, when I was staying with friends in their caravan in Cornwall.
Didn't they arrive in the UK from South America on bananas? I think I read that somewhere.
The spider originated from Madeira and the Canary Islands. It entered Britain in the mid/late nineteenth century in Torquay. It is gradually spreading northwards due to milder winters. It has been recorded in California and in January 2016 it was found in Chile, the first South American record.
