I'm making this a temporary sticky for the benefit of any guests or new members we might have who are new to feeding birds.
This time of year when the adults are gathering food for their young, the hatchlings get their water from the insects, worms and grubs that their parents feed them.
This spring has been cold, and insects are few and far between- so the adult birds are going to be depending on the mealworms we put out for them. If they feed the chicks dried mealworms, then the babies could well suffer from dehydration and even die of thirst.
So please, soak the mealworms for a few hours or even overnight!
